After having a bye last Friday, the Boerne Champion girls basketball team returned to action Tuesday by hosting Dripping Springs at Charger Gym.

Champion sprinted out to a big lead; the Lady Tigers made a run at the Chargers in the third before Champion closed it out with a strong push at the end.

The Lady Chargers claimed the 51-25 victory and improved to 8-2 in district. They’ve swept the Lady Tigers this year and are 21-6 overall. Champion visits Alamo Heights Friday.

Champion held a 15-point lead at halftime, 25-10, but Dripping Springs outscored them in the third, 14-10, and the Chargers lead was down to 11 when the fourth quarter started at 35-24.

Champion coach Marsha Hammond had removed some of her starters in the third but they returned in the fourth and righted the ship for the Chargers who outscored the Lady Tigers, 16-1, in the final stanza to close it out. Hammond said they bookended the game well.

“We played really good in the first and fourth quarters,” she said.

Khiara Flugence is closing in on 1,000 points and finished with 18 in Tuesday’s game to lead the Chargers. She has 988 points heading into Friday’s game at the Mule Dome.
