The Texas Department of Transportation announced Friday morning it has canceled its road work at the Highway 46 bridge over Interstate 10 scheduled for this weekend.
It said because of weather concerns, the work will be rescheduled for a later date.
When rescheduled, as part of the ongoing Interstate 10 frontage road construction in the Boerne area, the contractor will move into the next stage of construction which will require the realigning the I-10 mainlanes under the Highway 46 (Bandera Road) bridge.
The last stage of construction for the new Highway 46 bridge will necessitate transitioning the I-10 mainlane traffic from its current location to the segment that is currently a work area closed to traffic, TxDOT stated in a press release. The mainlane transition will place the eastbound mainlanes back in their natural configuration and the westbound mainlanes will be south of their existing orientation.
The transition is necessary to construct the second half of the Highway 46 bridge while maintaining a safe passage for motorists and all construction personnel.
And for safety reasons, the active bridge on Highway 46 at I-10 will be closed requiring all traffic to turn right onto the frontage roads.
