Boerne Independent School District, along with the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday to officially open the district’s Ag Barn and Animal Science Center.
BISD has in the past partnered with the Kendall County Fair Association to lease the Ag Barn within the Kendall County Fairgrounds on Highway 46 on Boerne’s east side. It now will be accessible to all district students.
More than 60 people attended Friday’s ceremony, including Boerne and Champion High School ag students and teachers, as well as representatives from the fair association, junior livestock and FFA associations.
Boerne High School agriculture teacher and FFA advisor Kathleen Young will serve as Boerne ISD’s Ag Barn manager.
“We are excited about continuing to honor our community’s strong agricultural heritage,” BISD Superintendent Thomas Price said. “The rich agricultural history of Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch and Kendall County is simply amazing, and we look forward to the future by using this incredible facility for our students at all grade levels.”
Information from BISD stated the district is “extremely grateful” for the KCFA’s generosity and especially for KCFA President Shane Boerner and 1st Vice President Billy Shussler.
“This is only possible because of their leadership and vision,” the information stated.
“BISD also thanks theKendall County Junior Livestock Association and its president, Joe Lozano, all our agricultural science and technology teachers at Boerne and Champion high schools and all of the FFA and 4-H parents who have provided their valuable guidance and advice,” the school district stated. “Our continued collaborative efforts will make this a great success for the school district and community.”
