After the weekend, Mondays in Comfort are quiet and fun

It’s no surprise that Comfort is a busy place on the weekends. There is often live music at various venues in and around town. Folks are out and about, and the place can be bustling.

It’s no surprise that Comfort is a busy place on the weekends. There is often live music at various venues in and around town. Folks are out and about, and the place can be bustling.

That’s probably the way it is in most towns as entertainment and night life abound on the weekends.

Then things quiet down come Monday. Shop owners need a day to kick back and recharge after the weekend, and thus visitors will see several “closed” signs. Still, for folks who like a bit of respite after the storm, a visit to Comfort on a Monday might be just the ticket. So, we’ve put together a few suggestions for you.

Begin your Monday at The Lobby Coffee Shop, 830-995-2324, where you can enjoy more than a cup of joe. There are plenty of yummy things to eat and more than coffee to drink. The building is historic and the atmosphere is artsy – a necessary compliment to this former theatre – making it a fun place to sit and sip. And most of the year you can also enjoy your breakfast outside.

Monday is a great day to do an outdoor activity. Bring your clubs and head over to The Buckhorn Golf Course for a round on the links, 830-995-5351. The Buckhorn is family-friendly establishment, located on FM 473, and easy to get to.

Another outdoor possibility is Flat Rock Mountain Bike Park, 210-213-3006. You must have a mountain bike to ride these trails, so be prepared. There are “Green Arrow Routes” designated for beginners, so if you’re new at this, don’t hesitate to give it a try.

The views are spectacular! Check out its website – www.flatrockranchtx.com – and you will get a good idea of what’s in store for you there.

Come back into town for lunch at the Horseshoe Pub, 830-995-5150. Enjoy a sandwich, a pizza or a special, along with a beer on tap or a glass of wine. This place is the perfect hometown café where folks gather to meet with friends and shoot the breeze. The food is good and there’s plenty of it, so come on down.

If you are in need of a home repair item or something for your car, don’t forget that Ledlow Lumber & Ranch Supply, 830-995-3659, and Napa Auto Parts, 830-995-2651, are also open on Mondays.

And now, for some afternoon shopping time. There are two very nice options and you will want to allow adequate time at each one because there is so much to see!

HC etc., the Heart Cottage, is actually a double store, so to speak. Initially, the building was constructed to house two separate business, The Heart Cottage and one other. Over time the two became one, and HC etc., the Heart Cottage, 830-995-5630, was born. This shop has a plethora of lovely items for ever-so-many occasions.

And last but certainly not least, Comfort Antique Mall, 830-995-4678, the granddaddy of antique stores in Comfort, is a must-include stop on your Monday excursion. You will find the wares of some 30 vendors, and if the thing you are looking for isn’t there, it may never have been made or it is on the extinct list! This business is user friendly as staff are always nearby to answer your questions and to help you find what you are looking for.

So, while some of Comfort’s shops and eateries are closed on Mondays – and for good reasons – you can still enjoy a pleasant day here. Till next time, we’ll see you on Monday, and remember that you can always find Comfort in Texas!
