Elizabeth Rose Sitka

October 19, 1938 – May 28, 2022

Elizabeth Rose Sitka of Boerne, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. She was 83 years old.

Elizabeth was born October 19, 1938, in Medical and Surgical Hospital San Antonio, the youngest child born to the late Robert Booth Oldham and Hazel (Emley) Oldham. She was married to John Sitka Jr. for 15 years.

Elizabeth was the deeply loved matriarch of the Sitka family. She was known as Mama, Mom, Grandma, Gma and OG. She was the mother of eight children and took in neighborhood children who were in need.

Elizabeth Rose Sitka lived life to the fullest and never stepped away from a challenge. Her most important legacy to her children is the belief that they can accomplish anything and that they are loved unconditionally.

Elizabeth was an accomplished woman. She was promoted to be one of the first female grocery managers for the Handy Andy grocery chain, held a private pilot license and was a recognized member of MENSA. After bringing up her children, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Old Dominion University and a master’s degree in computer science from Johns Hopkins University. She then joined the National Security Agency from where she retired as a system administrator with over 25 years of distinguished service.

Elizabeth is survived by her sons and daughters, John Sitka III of Norfolk, Virginia, Kathy Chopra of Lexington, Kentucky, Margaret Pillar of Boerne, Ruth Lander of Kingwood, Michael Sitka of Lubbock, Penny Carter of Bandera and Mark Sitka of Lufkin. She has 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Hazel Oldham; her brother, Robert Booth Jr.; and her son, Robert Sitka.

A graveside service was held June 2 at Rodfei Sholom Cemetery in San Antonio.
