Editor’s note: The following are spiritual poems written by local resident Jim “Pops” Talerico, a member of nineteen:10 Church in Boerne.
“’God’s Inspiring Words’ is a series of poems written in plain language and designed to inspire you, the reader, to apply these truths to your own life,” Telerico said. “My hope is that these words will help you find joy and meaning.
“After we pursue our own plan for our life, we will eventually realize that God’s way is the only way. My prayer is that you will find a way to make Him a part of how you live.”
The Boerne Star will publish some of these poems when space permits.
God’s Presence
While I sit here in the shade and take the time to see,
I ponder on the natural things that God has given me.
The tallest tree, the waiving grass, the shape of all the land, holds a message just for me. For it was molded by His hands.
Relaxed I sit here waiting, as His words fall on my heart.
No wonder I feel so secure, for we are never apart.
So, I take a moment every day and enjoy what he has given.
For a greater glory waits for me when I join him up in heaven.
Easter Weekend at a Ranch
The fire lapped at the oak logs that lined the fire pit,
And lashed their hot flames at me, determined not to quit.
And bellows of ominous clouds formed, as the evening settled in.
Then darkness rose its ugly head, to let the mist rain begin.
Quietly I excused myself, then headed for my room,
To seek a safe and quiet place and hide from all the gloom.
My mind was quoting scripture, as I thought about that day.
Intertwined within a rocky grave, where the body of my savior lay.
The morning came with brilliant light, to start a brand-new day.
Easter morning by him was made, and I began to pray.
I walked into the solitude, of that warm and quiet morning.
I knew my God has smiled at me, what a feeling to be born.
I savored all the natural things, that he created for me to see,
And felt His strong and loving arms begin to encompass me.
The coolness of a gentle wind, told me I need not hurry,
For I knew deep within my heart, that I never have to worry.
