Both Boerne High and Boerne Champion placed in the top 10 in their respective divisions in this year’s UIL Lone Star Cup standings.
The Lone Star Cup is a state-wide contest where the top performing high schools in each of the six UIL classifications are recognized.
The Greyhounds finished fourth in the state in 4A with 90 points and the Chargers were 10th with 65 points in the 5A division.
The schools earn points throughout the year in various UIL activities, mostly sports related, however points can be picked up in marching band, one-act play, academics, robotics, spirit, film and mariachi.
Champion earned 14 points in one-act play after winning a state championship and the Charger boys basketball team also picked up 14 team points after they advanced to the state tournament. They tied for the most points earned at the school.
Boerne High had three teams qualify for the state tournament after the boys basketball squad and both soccer teams advanced to state and all earned dou ble-digit points.
The BHS boys soccer squad claimed the 4A state title for the second year in a row and earned the most points for BHS with 18.
In team sports, schools earn points for winning a district title and making the playoffs and then pick up points for each round advanced. They earn additional points with a state title.
Schools can also pick up points in individual sports as well but it is scored differently.
