As part of the ongoing Interstate 10 frontage road work, the Texas Department of Transportation announced on Thursday that the contractor is progressing into the last stage of construction for the new Highway 87 bridge. That, in turn, necessitates transitioning the I-10 mainlane traffic from the current location to the segment that is currently a work area closed to traffic.
The mainlane transition will place the eastbound mainlanes back in their natural configuration and the westbound mainlanes will be south of their existing orientation, TxDOT stated.
This phase will require the temporary closure of the westbound entrance ramp from Scenic Loop. The transition is to construct the second half of the Highway 87 bridge while maintaining “a safe passage for motorists and all construction personnel.”
The entrance ramp will also undergo construction to complete its final configuration that will include a longer merge lane for motorists entering I-10.
The work is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, weather permitting. Multiple nights may be required to complete the work between the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
During the overnight construction, the westbound entrance ramp traffic will utilize the westbound frontage road, across the Highway 87 intersection (all-way stop), then onto the next available entrance ramp near Highway 46, information from TxDOT stated.
