Editor’s note: The following are spiritual poems written by local resident Jim “Pops” Talerico, a member of nineteen:10 Church in Boerne.
“’God’s Inspiring Words’ is a series of poems written in plain language and designed to inspire you, the reader, to apply these truths to your own life,” Telerico said. “My hope is that these words will help you find joy and meaning.
“After we pursue our own plan for our life, we will eventually realize that God’s way is the only way. My prayer is that you will find a way to make Him a part of how you live.”
The Boerne Star will publish some of these poems when space permits.
I Sense your Presence
I sense your very presence, in the natural things I see.
Your beauty abounds around me, as you meant it all to be. So, I pause in a moment of time, and anticipate your will.
And ponder on your very word, when it is all very still.
My mind is open at that moment, when I feel your loving touch.
And I am filled with your Holy Spirit that to me means so much.
So, use me Lord as you will, and guide me along your way.
For love I know and love I feel, filling my soul this day.
The Heavens and Me
The trumpet blast was the voice of Christ, so all the saints could hear it,
And resounded clearly in our hearts, for he is the Holy Spirit.
And before me was a throne in heaven, encased in brilliant light.
And on it was the King of Kings, oh what an awesome sight!
Glory and honor are due to him, for the created everything.
And Songs of joy filled the skies, as you heard the angels sing.
You are worthy our lord and God, as I looked longingly at the sky.
And wondered how I would respond; would I sing or start to cry?
But regardless, I do know this of what I would do or say,
My heart knows that for sure, I will be with someday.
The Great Kiskadee
In he flew among the branches like a bandit in the night,
His mask about his shining eyes, and his body reflecting the light.
He crouched among the leaves of green, like a stealthy little fellow,
But his body shone like a beacon, encased in a cover of yellow.
His brownish colored wings sought to cover his breast.
But his beauty reflected every spot, for his artist had done his best.
God intended for him to shine, and warm the person below.
To prove to all who pause to see, how God’s touch can make things glow.
So next time you see the smallest thing that nature has on display,
Remember how it was made, and that God does it every day
