Editor’s note: The following are spiritual poems written by local resident Jim “Pops” Talerico, a member of nineteen:10 Church in Boerne.
“’God’s Inspiring Words’ is a series of poems written in plain language and designed to inspire you, the reader, to apply these truths to your own life,” Telerico said. “My hope is that these words will help you find joy and meaning.
“After we pursue our own plan for our life, we will eventually realize that God’s way is the only way. My prayer is that you will find a way to make Him a part of how you live.”
The Boerne Star will publish some of these poems when space permits.
Restored Failures
The world may embrace success,
For it is easy for them to see.
But failures offer people hope.
That’s how God meant it to be.
The shallow life of those who fail,
The ones who miss the mark,
Are those who never knew him
And still walk in the dark.
But open hearts that see the light,
And never question why,
Are those who know the path they ride
The moment that they die.
For this world offers nothing
That a saint would have to fear,
For regardless of our trying times,
We know that God is near.
So, smile my friend, each day
And look the world in the eye,
No matter the challenge that we face,
We know the reason why.
A Brand-New Day
The Lord reached down and touched me.
As I lay there half asleep.
But I knew from His awesome radiance,
That I did not dare to peak.
But when I finally did arise,
To face this brand-new day,
The assurance that embellished me,
I knew was there to stay.
My mind filled with His presence,
as I began to pray aloud.
And I knew the world awaited me,
as I prepared to meet the crowd.
Shouting and cursing pierced the air
As I moved quietly through the crowd.
For according to my saviors’ words,
This behavior was not aloud.
For these days on earth are fleeting.
So have no fear my friend.
The days of glory that we seek,
Are just around the bend.
