It’s just around the corner, the best day of the entire summer: July 4! So, mark your calendars and plan to spend the day in Comfort – literally in “comfort!”
Comfort has a long-standing tradition of celebrating our nation’s independence with all the stops pulled out. I think you’ll agree that what we do defines the quintessential July 4 celebration!
The day begins with special fun for the kiddos. There will be a bicycle parade starting at 9:30 am. We encourage the participants to decorate their bikes in all sorts of red, white and blue. There is nothing cuter than a group of youngsters sailing down the road with streamers and ponytails flying in the wind.
Following the bicycle parade will be the grand parade at 10 a.m., and this promises to be the best of home-town parades. Local area businesses and organizations really enjoy being in a parade, and we enjoy watching them. You will see floats, classic cars and trucks and flatbeds loaded with volunteers eager to do their bit.
Next, you are invited to head over to Comfort Park and enjoy a mouth-watering barbecue picnic of brisket &and sausage, beans and potato salad and condiments and barbecue sauce, topped off with good ol’ Texas tea, and all for just $15. The barbecue will be prepared by Comfort’s own Food for the Soul Bistro and served by area volunteers.
Don’t forget to enjoy a slice of apple pie from our annual apple pie contest, for what can be more July 4 than that? And while you eat you will be entertained by the Drugstore Cowboys.
Not to be missed is the most amazing silent auction where you will find an eclectic array of one-of-a-kind treasures that will include art, antiques, crystal, pottery, gift certificates and items you can’t even imagine.
A fun afternoon of outdoor games for all ages will be furnished by the Miss Comfort Court, and all game donations will go toward its scholarship fund. Come play! There will be a cornhole toss competition, duck pond, ring toss, potato sack races and so much more. And also in the park you will find vendors, face painting, and celebration hats.
And that’s not all. Back by popular demand will be the second annual Comfort’s Got Talent Contest & Show. It will take place downtown at Just Chillin’ in Comfort. This event had its debut last year, and it was such a great success, so we’re doing it again. The exact time has yet to be determined; give us a call at the chamber, 830-995-3131, and we’ll let you know what we know.
A downhome celebration of our nation’s Independence is something we can be part of and feel great about. And you know just where you can always find Comfort in Texas!
Till next time, happy July 4!
