An accident Thursday evening left 49-year-old Boerne resident David John Belter dead after reports stated a woman drove into oncoming traffic on Highway 46 and struck Belter’s vehicle head-on.

The accident occurred at about 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 46 and Rust Lane, according to Kendall County call sheets from that day.

According to information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, 22-year-old Kendall Lauren Batchelor, of San Antonio, drove her 2021 Ford F-150 into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lane of Highway 46. The information stated Batchelor struck Belter’s 2002 Honda Accord, which was traveling east out of Boerne, hitting him head-on.

DPS officials stated Belter was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation, information from DPS stated, and “the contributing factors are not yet known.” A statement from DPS urged drivers to obey traffic control devices and speed limits and to minimize distractions while operating a vehicle.

Law enforcement closed Highway 46 in both directions while an initial investigation was conducted.

No other information was available by The Star’s Tuesday press deadline.

This is Batchelor’s second accident in Kendall County in less than a year, according to a crash report from Dec. 23, 2021.

That crash report from DPS states Batchelor was traveling east in the 500 block of Oak Park Drive at about 3:15 a.m. that Thursday morning “at a high rate of speed.” Batchelor is facing two Class B misdemeanor charges from that incident for failure of duty on striking an unattended vehicle.
