Free summer membership opportunity for teens at Boerne YMCA

The Boerne Family YMCA announced it is offering a free summer membership opportunity for local teenagers ages 13-18. Registration for the YMCA Volunteens program is open and the program runs from June 1 to Aug. 31.

The YMCA believes that the successful development of youth is supported by fulfilling their innate need to be loved, spiritually grounded, educated, competent, and healthy, information in a press release stated.

“YMCA programs are designed to nurture the potential of our young people in ways that foster achievement, positive relationships, and belonging,” the information stated. “Strengthening and empowering our youth today is investing in a stronger community tomorrow.”

By volunteering at the YMCA, teens can receive a free summer membership. Teens will be required to volunteer three hours of service per week to maintain their membership.

YMCA membership grants teens full access to the facility outside of their volunteer hours. Teens can volunteer in membership, wellness, aquatics, specialty camps, sports and splash, youth sports and other areas of need.

Currently, the YMCA has lifeguard job opportunities starting at age 15. This program aims to work as a pipeline for teens as a way to enter the workforce. Teens interested in the opportunity may stop by the front desk at the Boerne Family YMCA to register or contact Selma Angelucci at 830-815-1040 to learn more.
