Story
The Boerne High baseball team has advanced to the third round of the 4A playoffs and will tangle with Rockport-Fulton this weekend.
It’s a best of three series that started Thursday and will continue with Game 2 on Friday at 7 p.m. A third game, if needed, will also take place at 7 p.m. The entire series takes place in Jourdanton.
Boerne is coming off a one-game series win over Sweeny in the second round and because the Hounds were done last Friday, BHS coach Bill Merrell was able to watch Rockport-Fulton play on Saturday against 28-4A foe Davenport at Three Rivers.
“They’re scrappy and playing good baseball right now. They get after it and make you play defense, they’re scary.” he said. “They came out of that Sinton district and their only losses in district were to Sinton. They remind me of Canyon Lake, they’re young, a lot of sophomores and juniors, but very disciplined at the plate.”
Boerne (30-3) swept Gonzales in the first round and then beat Sweeny last week in a one gamer.
Andrew Poole has won two of the three playoff games and Poole will either start on Thursday or Friday. Xander Cloudy will start the other game and if it goes to a third game, Merrell said he plans to put Tyler Garritano on the mound.
The coach added that Kalob Sanchez and Landon LeStourgeon will be used as relief pitchers or in the closer roles in either of the first two games and both may pitch in the third game if needed. Rockport-Fulton (24-9) swept Colum
Rockport-Fulton (24-9) swept Columbia in the first round and then beat Davenport last week.
Neither Boerne nor Rockport-Fulton has lost a game in the playoffs but all that changed on Thursday after one of them suffered its first loss in the postseason.

NOTES: Boerne catcher Rashawn Galloway has been selected to play in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star game coming up on Father’s Day weekend, according to Merrell.
