Congratulations to several artists who participated in Boerne Art Waddle 2022. While it was a bit toasty outside, the Cibolo Creek Trail made a lovely backdrop for activities of the day.
HCCArts and Events off Main thank all who came out to enjoy the music; food, beer and wine; children’s activities; and peruse a variety of art in a variety of mediums. We thank our volunteers and sponsors who make these community events possible.
This year’s artists’ ribbons were presented to:
First place: Keith Stinnett, “Old Frank,” acrylics, bright splashy colored canvas, stating he was influenced by the Fauvists whose works emphasized strong colors to define emotion.
Second place: Jim Hokansan, inlay wooden bowl, represented by Helotes Gallery.
Third place: Russel Smith, “Reverse Time Traveler,” photograph, shoots with film using only one Nikon camera and one Nikon 20/200 lens.
Honorable mention: Jonathan Barnes for his body of work and willingness to share his evolution in art with his audience, preferred medium is watercolor.
Honorable mention: Heath Payne for his originality, acrylic and mixed media, “Smoldering Books” series and “Planets” series.
Proceeds benefit the Cibolo Center for Conservation Art Camps and HCCArts.
Art AfterHours 2022 Series 4: Applied arts methodologies
• Stained Glass Lights: June 7 and 14
A two-part class provides an opportunity to work on a dimensional stained glass piece. We will work on glass cutting, soldering and finishing through traditional stained glass techniques for copper foil. The finished panel lamp will be soldered to a clip and attached to a lamp base for everyone to enjoy.
• Rice Paper Resist: June 21
Dive into Tar Gel medium as we use this flowing resist to cre ate translucent sheets of rice paper. Explore color and layers on rice paper substrate. Transform the opaque paper to a sheer graphic enhancement with the use of paint, stencils, palette knives, and brushes.
• Indigo Dyeing: June 28
Experience the oldest form of textile dye used throughout the world for 6,000 years. Watch the amazing transformation of this deep blue dye as it is exposed to oxygen. Practice the art of Shibori dyeing using folds, twists, and forms to produce amazing patterns.
• Paper Clay Casting: July 5 and 12
Adorn a papier-mache box with cast ornaments. Discover old world architectural embellishments through the process of mould painting, paint and gilding wax. The modern medium air dries to a hard solid state that can be painted and gilded to produce stunning decorative pieces for keepsakes and admiration.

Quilling: May 24 – Roll, loop, twist and curl your way to a wonderful experience. The Renaissance art of paper manipulation once adorned books, cabinets and purses. In our class, we will focus on modern applications of this enjoyable art form constructing a design that will compliment any wall.
