Houston Second Baptist won a see-saw game over the Geneva School of Boerne softball team in second-round playoff action last Thursday in Shiner.
The Eagles held a 6-1 lead early in the contest, but the Houston school rallied and finished strong to record the 10-9 victory.
Geneva’s season comes to an end with a record of 8-8.
In Thursday’s game, the Eagles were trailing 1-0 but scored 6 runs in the top of the second for the 6-1 lead. Second Baptist answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the frame to pull within a run at 6-5.
Geneva plated single runs in the fourth and fifth frames and built an 8-5 advantage but the lead wouldn’t hold.
Second Baptist scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and it was 8-6, however, Geneva got that run back in the top of the sixth and was ahead 9-6, but the Houston school had a big at bat in the bottom of the sixth.
Second Baptist scored 4 runs and used a walk, single and another walk to load the bases with no outs. A bases-clearing double brought in 3 runs and tied it at 9-9.
With one out, a single brought in the runner from second and Second Baptist had taken the lead at 10-9 before the Eagles could get out of the frame.
Geneva still had a chance in the top of the seventh but went down in order with three straight ground outs to end the game.
Abby Brehmer, KK Chisholm, Madeline Egbert, Alexa Elizondo and Sydney Griffey all doubled for the Eagles team that had 10 hits in the game.
Egbert threw 141 pitches in the game and fanned 7 and walked 7.
Seniors are Sydney Griffey, Sam Doran, Alexa Elizondo, Avery Myrick, Kathryn Chisholm and Sarah Coultress.
