The Art Waddle, Boerne’s premier community art show and sale, will take place on Saturday, May 14, with full day of activities from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a meet the artist kickoff party slated for Friday, May 13, from 4 to 7 p.m.
This year’s festive outdoor event is being held along the Cibolo Creek Trail behind the Cibolo Creek Brewery off Main Street. Proceeds from the event benefit scholarships for Cibolo’s Summer Art Camp. Attendees are invited to stroll with their families and friends through the Art Waddle route to discover art of all kinds.
For many of the new folks moving to Boerne, Boerne is filled with an array of artists. The Waddle emulates Boerne’s commitment to the arts and is part of the trend toward a fun, informal celebration of painting, sculpture, glassworks and more. People stroll streets at their own pace, chatting with artists, making friends and enjoying the day, perhaps partaking of a refreshment offered by one of the artists.
This event has great food, music and activities for all ages. The forecast predicts a beautiful weekend out for a stroll through the Cibolo Creek Trail. You will not find another activity like this in Boerne.
Cibolo Summer Camp offers both nature and art camps for ages 5-12. Art Camp occurs for seven weeks from June to August and emphasizes exploring the outdoors, learning new techniques and capturing nature by encouraging personal expression and creativity. This year, we are excited to feature more hands-on, high sensory-stimulating activities Nature Cuisine and Theater in Nature.
“Each year, we strive to create programs that attract children from across the Hill Country,” said Laurie Brown, director of programs at the Cibolo. “By providing scholarships, we hope to bring children who would not have access otherwise and would benefit from the enriching experiences and beautiful environment at the Cibolo Nature Center.”
During Living Art week, campers will give life to art with the help of natural elements. Create chimes that sing with the help of the wind, construct a kite that will soar like a bird, press flowers and create a stained-glass effect with the help of the sun and so much more!
Adding Theater in Nature to the Cibolo’s Summer Camp docket will break children out of their shells. Campers will learn to build a set and create their own mini play with natural materials. They will also learn about the importance of recycling while they make costumes and try their hands at sewing.
“We want children to know that nature is not one-dimensional,” Brown said. “Nature is multilayered. Our camps help children explore many of those avenues through various dynamic activities. With a new theme each week, your children will spend the summers outdoors fully emersed in everything we love about the Cibolo.
Named after the ducks that populate Boerne’s Cibolo Creek, the Art Waddle was started by friends of the Cibolo Linda Manning and Mary Morton with Events Off Main, carrying the event forward for the past two years. There is no admission fee to the Waddle, though waddlers are encouraged to contribute to the artists and the cause.
More than 50 artists are expected to participate this year.
