The Geneva School of Boerne softball team won a pair of big games early this week - one to get into the playoffs and the other to determine seeding in games played on Monday and Tuesday.
The Eagles beat TMI – Episcopal to clinch a playoff spot and then defeated John Paul II to take the fourth seed in the district.
Geneva’s busy week wasn’t over because they opened the playoffs Thursday against Houston Second Baptist in Shiner. For results of that game, see the Boerne Star.
In the regular-season finale against TMI, the Eagles won 6-4.
Geneva took control with a 5-run inning in the third after they hit 5 singles and a double for the 5-1 lead and never trailed from there.
Both teams had 8 hits in the game and the Eagles were led by Kate Friesenhahn who hit a triple, 2 singles and drove in 2 runs, while Madeline Egbert doubled, picked up an RBI and scored once and Alexa Elizondo plated 2 runs.
Egbert picked up the win in 4 innings and fanned 6, while Avery Myrick tossed 3 innings and struck out 1.
Against John Paul II, the Eagles won 6-1. Geneva had a quick start and scored 3 in the first, another in the third and 2 in the fourth for the 6-0 lead before JPII scored its only run in the 6th.
Madeline Egbert and Maegan Riebel both tripled and Kate Friesenhahn doubled, with Friesenhahn and Riebel also hitting singles and scoring one run each.
Egbert went 7 innings in the circle and only gave up 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and fanned 5 to get the win.
