Season ticket holders won’t miss a moment of the highly acclaimed performances ahead as Boerne Performing Arts prepares to send audience members around the world with its announcement of the 2022-23 lineup.
The new season’s adventure of sounds, sights and experiences will come from Canada, Great Britain, China and the country of Georgia and all be seen and heard from the seats of the Champion High School auditorium.
“We were so grateful to the response from the greater community, patrons and sponsors alike to our 2021-2022 season after our ‘extended intermission’ due to COVID in 2020 and 2021,” BPA board of directors President Carol Schultz told The Star. “We are thrilled about the quality and variety of artists we have secured for this upcoming season, and we hope to return to our ‘sold out’ status for the evening performances.”
Season tickets currently are on sale at the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce and online at boerneperforming arts.com.
First to grace the stage in the 2022-23 season will be a special holiday event, first anticipated during the 2020-21 season which had to be rescheduled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now touring again, Canadian Brass will open the season on Dec. 15 with the signature sounds of its brass quintet performing jubilant arrangements of beloved Christmas songs.
“This internationally acclaimed group, also known as, ‘the men who put brass music on the map,’ will bring its trademark mix of musical genres to ring in the Christmas season with its unique sound and playful, musical celebration,” information from BPA stated.
The regular season begins on Jan. 26, 2023, when Boerne will host the British Invasion – Live on Stage. BPA information states this popular musical group recreates the songs that made up the musical tidal wave known as the British invasion that began with the introduction in February 1964 of The Beatles to television audiences and the bands that soon followed.
“The musical scene and songs that emerged from that era will entertain audiences with hits from the Rolling Stones, Dave Clark 5, the Animals and, of course, The Beatles,” BPA’s press release stated. “Audiences will experience pop culture history live and in person in this immersive multimedia show that enthusiastically proclaims, ‘They Came, They Sang, and They Conquered!’”
On Feb. 24, a rare opportunity for arts lovers will be brought to the stage with the colorful sights, percussive sounds and fancy footwork of the Royal National Dance Co. from the country of Georgia. Performing the “Fire of Georgia,” this visually thrilling dance troupe combines Georgian folk dances and a modern attitude with exquisite costumes to artfully blend the professional devotion of classically trained dancers with the unique expression through choreography of the traditional dances from the Caucasus region of Asia, BPA’s press release stated.
“They beautifully and powerfully illustrate why dance meets no language barriers in telling the stories of a people and its traditions as they dance, soar and twirl through a riveting performance covering every inch of the stage,” the information stated. “Through athletic and graceful techniques, they communicate how artists have been preserving, expressing, and sharing stories illustrating the range of lived experiences in communities all around the world.”
Finally, to complete the season, on March 24, the Peking Acrobats will leap and thrill their way into town as they astound, amaze and amuse in a performance that epitomizes family fun. While they perform audacious, daring acrobatics, they do so with a grace so effortless it belies the incredible strength and skill required to routinely master such precarious wonders, BPA stated.
“With flawless timing and agility, they are experts at trick-cycling, precision tumbling, somersaulting and gymnastics,” the press release stated. “You will experience hold-your-breath moments as they defy gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibil ity and control.”
At the close of the 2023 season, the Peking Acrobats will continue to celebrate more than 30 years of awe-inspiring entertainment with their fans, young and old, BPA’s information stated.
“As in every one of its now 11 seasons, Boerne Performing Arts strives to fulfill its mission to feature internationally acclaimed artists, educate through student outreach programs and enrich the quality of life in the community,” the press release stated.
