Arts partners continue to support community in big ways

Cibolo Creek Quilters Guild members’ generosity offers a magnificent year of support to local charities. While COVID-19 continued to prevent opportunities for members to get together and sew, it failed to impact donations to local charities. Cibolo Creek Quilters Guild members’ generosity offers a magnificent year of support to local charities. While COVID-19 continued to prevent opportunities for members to get together and sew, it failed to impact donations to local charities. We appreciate the donation of precious time, talent and treasures of our arts partner guild members.

Guild donations included 15 quilts and 14 pillowcases to the Kendall County Women’s Shelter; 24 baby quilts to the University Hospital NICU; two twin bed quilts to Sleep in Heavenly Peace; 23 clothing protectors, 18 wheelchair quilts, four prayer shawls, four activity mats and two neck scarves to Menger Springs Morningside Ministries and Cibolo Creek Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center; 26 quilt tops, two completed quilts and 22 pillowcases to Quilts of Honor; and the gathering of 332 pounds of food, toiletries and toys for Hill Country Family Services.

And in CCQG members’ spare time, they again partnered with HCCArts in its Stocking Stuffer project by sewing 140 stockings. The stockings were filled with donations from local businesses and delivered to the Kendall County Women’s Shelter and the Boerne Pregnancy Center.

They are scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at The Classroom at The Agri-Cultural Museum and Arts Center, 102 City Park Road, Boerne. There are discounts with membership. Limited registration is available at www.hccarts.org.

• January 18: Paper pulp bowls (Part 1).

Explore the use of paper in a sculptural form. From discarded paper, we will create stunning functional art. Two classes will provide the completed project. Part 1 will focus on construction and drying. Part 2 (January 25) will target embellishment and finishing. Paint and form make each bowl come alive with its own unique design.

• February 1: Fabulous felt with hot knife.

Take an adventure in mixed media. We will use additive and subtractive applications to transform Kunin felt, paint and fiber into textural and vibrant works, ready for display. Try your hand at cut work with a modern twist.

• February 8: Rubber stamp carving.

Fashion your own rubber stamps and learn the principals of printmaking. The process includes carving imagery into a particular printmaking block, applying inks, and transferring the image to the final project. The relief technique provides an opportunity to use positive and negative space to create a final image.

• February 15: Gel plate printing.

Enjoy an evening of mono printing on gel plates. Mineral based on flexible plates can be layered with paints, inks and other mediums. The plates allow building color and textures with stencils, stamps, drawing tools and more. The class will focus on creating multiple images to create unique prints and cards. If you want to explore mixed media, color, printing, and collage concepts in a relaxed and intriguing new medium, an evening gel printing is for you.
