Comfort’s softball season came to an end last Thursday night in Boerne when the Deer were defeated by Marion in a heartbreaker.
The Lady Bulldogs pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the 2-1 victory despite getting outhit by the Deer, 6-1.
Comfort ends its season at 17-7.
Morgan Hansen scored a run for the Deer in the top of the fourth and the 1-0 lead held until the fifth when Marion tied it with an unearned run.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh when an error and a fielder’s choice allowed Marion’s Jaslyne Williams to make it to second. Williams stole third and then scored on a bunt to end the game with one out.
Williams had Marion’s only hit in the game, a single in the fourth inning.
Ashlynn Rodriguez, Tori Hernandez and Tilly Avalos all singled, while Hope Van Geffen had 2 singles and Hansen singled and scored.
Emma Wardlaw took the tough-luck loss despite only giving up 1 hit, no earned runs and no walks to go with 13 strikeouts.
