The Boerne Independent School District believes there is nothing more important than getting an education after high school, whether it’s at a professional training program, a community college, a four-year college or university or in the military.
So, similar to what BISD student-athletes do when they announce their future sports plans, the district recently sponsored its inaugural academics, fine arts and military signing day in which Boerne and Champion high school seniors announced their next step after they graduate at the end of May.
“This is really a neat thing,” BISD Superintendent Tom Price said during the board of trustees’ April meeting earlier this week. “We took a look at our academic, fine arts and military students and gave them a chance to sign.”
More than 100 students at the high schools elected to participate. Ceremonies took place at both schools. Announced scholarship amounts ranged from $1,000 to $797,000.
Following is the list of students who announced their intentions to pursue a two- or four-year degree, a certificate or industry-recognized credential or enlist in the military after high school as well as the scholarship amounts they were awarded. The money total is the total amount of scholarships offered.
