A trio of Boerne fishermen cleaned up at the recent Border Bass Battle fishing tournament at Lake Amistad near Del Rio.
Zach Bibb, his son Hudson Bibb, along with their friend Brendan Kennell, were entered in the contest and came away with $4,250 in earnings.
The youngest in the group, Hudson Bibb, earned the most after he reeled in $3,250 in prize money.
Hudson is only 12-years old and is a student at Geneva School of Boerne.
At the contest, fish are weighed after every hour and Kennell won the first hour with a 7.62-pound bass and picked up $1,000 for turning in the largest bass caught that hour.
Hudson turned in the fish that he caught in the next hour and his largemouth bass weighed 8.1 pounds. Hudson earned $1,000 for his efforts and the bass he caught ended up being the heaviest fish of the day, which was worth another $1,600.
Since Hudson is younger than 15, his catch helped him earn $650 more as the junior division champion.
So what will the 12-year-old do with his $3,250 in prize money?
“He’ll get to keep a little and some will go towards expenses,” proud dad Zach said. “The rest will go towards his college fund.”
There was a total of 180 fishermen entered in the contest.
