Chargers cancel spring football drills

Because of a couple of coaching changes with the Boerne Champion football program, the Chargers have cancelled this year’s spring workouts and spring game.

Last season’s offensive coordinator Kevin Brown left Champion and is now the head coach at Waco Robinson and quarterbacks coach Josh Adkins also left the Charger program and is heading back to his alma mater to become the offensive coordinator at Smithson Valley under Larry Hill, who just won a state title last fall.

Without an offensive coordinator and not sure of what offensive schemes or plays they will be calling in the fall, Chargers head coach Blane Ellis decided to call off the spring workouts.

Because they will skip spring drills, the Chargers can start the first Monday in August and don’t have to wait a week before starting workouts.

Champion started having spring football in 2013 and this will be only the second time they didn’t host a game. The only other time that happened was back in 2020 because of COVID.

There have been 11 spring football games in Champion history.
