Geneva softball splits last two games

Geneva School of Boerne split its last two district softball games with a win over Corpus Christi Incarnate Word and a loss to Holy Cross.

Geneva is 7-2 overall and hosted Corpus Christi John Paul II on Friday.

Vs. CC Incarnate Word

Wednesday’s softball game was a make-up game that was called because of the weather.

The Eagles defeated the visitors from Corpus Christi, 7-3 behind 6 hits and scored 4 of their 7 runs in one inning.

Geneva was up 2-0 and then added 4 runs in the third for the 6-0 lead. They tacked on another run in the fourth to pull ahead 7-0 and didn’t score after that but it was enough to get the win.

The Angels didn’t get on the board until they scored 2 in the fifth frame and added another in the sixth. After not scoring in the seventh, the Eagles didn’t have to bat since they were the home team.

Madeline Egbert struck out 6 batters and gave up 5 hits and improved her record to 5-2.

Kate Friesenhahn went 3 for 3 at the plate and knocked out 2 doubles and picked up 4 RBI.

Maegan Riebel hit a 2-RBI single in the third frame.

Vs. Holy Cross

The Holy Cross softball team exploded for 18 runs Monday and went to defeat Geneva School of Boerne in three innings, 18-0.

The Eagles only managed two hits in the game and committed an error, while the Lady Knights finished with 11 hits and didn’t commit an error.
