’Cats defeat ’Dogs,
9-4
The Bobcat baseball team picked up a road win Monday at Brady by beating the Bulldogs, 9-4.
Comfort is 3-2 in district and through the first four games of league play has either swept or been swept. The Cats were looking to complete the sweep against the Bulldogs Friday at home.
CHS visits Blanco on Monday and then hosts the Panthers on Thursday.
After not scoring in the first inning, Comfort tallied runs over its last six bat bats and went up 9-0 before the Bulldogs tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh and put a scare in the Bobcats with 4 runs.
The Cats plated 2 in the second, 2 in the third, another run in the fourth, 2 more in the fifth before closing it out with single runs in the sixth and seventh frames.
Brady batted 9 batters in the seventh and cut into the lead at 9-4 with only one out. The Bulldogs had two runners on base, but Comfort pitcher Gunner Carpenter closed it out with a pair of strikeouts to end seal the victory.
Comfort had 9 hits, 8 of them singles. The only extra base hit came from Mason Matter who doubled and scored. Tucker Rust, Noah Bohnert and Mason Matt all finished with 2 hits apiece, while Bohnert scored 2 runs and Dax Stehling and Evan Valadez both walked twice.
Rust started on the hill and picked up the victory in six innings of work and only gave up one hit. He gave up 1 earned run, 3 walks and fanned 6.
Carpenter closed it out in the seventh and fanned 3 batters, while giving up 2 hits and 1 earned run.
