Bergheim resident Anna Baker was selected as recipient of the TXDAR Outstanding DAR Service for Veterans award at the Texas Society DAR State Conference in March.

Baker, from the George W. Kendall DAR chapter, shows “unwavering commitment to service and passion for supporting veterans (that) truly sets her apart,” the Kendall DAR chapter stated in a release announcing her award.

“Her heart for service shines brightly, and we are thrilled to see her dedication recognized at this level,” the chapter said.

Anna has made significant contributions to serving veterans through dedicated work with the Best Defense Foundation, an organization that has returned World War II veterans to their battlefields. She has participated in 11 programs, benefiting over 250 veterans.

In 2024, she played a crucial role in organizing and planning the return of 48 WWII veterans and their caregivers to Normandy for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Commemorations. During the program, which lasted 12 days, Baker served as a squad leader, providing invaluable support to the veterans.

Her commitment goes beyond the battlefield. In 2024, she visited five veterans at their homes in San Diego, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City and Baltimore. She has formed deep, lasting relationships with these veterans, demonstrating her genuine care and devotion.

“Anna’s personal connection to each of these heroes highlights her unwavering dedication to honoring their sacrifices,” the chapter said.

Baker currently is involved in the planning stages for the next group of WWII veterans who will travel overseas to revisit the places that shaped their history. As the number of these veterans decreases, the significance of this honorable mission remains clear to all the volunteers involved. “Anna’s role continues to be a vital part of preserving the memories and experiences of these brave men and women, ensuring that their stories will never be forgotten,” the Kendall DAR chapter stated.
