COMFORT - The Boerne High girls golf team competed at this week’s District 26-5A tournament held Monday and Tuesday at the Buckhorn Golf Course in Comfort.
Only the top two teams and top two individuals not on an advancing team can qualify for regionals and vie for a chance at state.
The Lady Hounds shot a two-day score of 697 (357,340) for sixth out of the nine teams entered.
Each school is allowed to bring two teams and Pieper and Alamo Heights did, while Wagner and Veterans Memorial didn’t have enough for a full team and only had individual players.
Lila Sherrill led the Boerne girls after she finished with a 171 after rounds of 92 and 79, Ryann Tuschinski was one stroke back at 172 with rounds of 85 and 87, Hannah Vance carded a 177 after shooting an 88 and 89, Emma Byrd finished with a 179 after recording a 94 and 85, Ria Patel scored a 181 with rounds of 92 and 89, while Jillian Balderas played as an individual medalist and scored a 187 with rounds of 94 and 93.
Alamo Heights 1 was first at 601 (294,307), Pieper 1 came in second at 615 (305,310) and Alamo Heights 2 took third 623 (311,312) and will serve as an alternate.
Ellie Harris from Kerrville Tivy made it as an individual qualifier after she shot a 146 (73,73), Maddie Lawless from Smithson Valley made it as well with a 150 (74,76).
Actually, Michelle Lee from Alamo Heights 2 beat both Harris and Lawless with a 141 (71,70) but she’ll play as part of the Alamo Heights 1 team at regionals and by doing so opened up a spot for Lawless.
