COMFORT – There were five ties or lead changes in Monday’s district baseball game between Comfort and Ingram.
The Bobcats needed one more tie or lead change late in the bottom of the seventh inning but couldn’t get it. Comfort had the tying run at third and the winning run at the plate with two outs, but the Warriors recorded the last out to edge the Bobcats, 8-7.
CHS is 2-1 in district and 7-8 overall. They were at Ingram Friday to close out their series and play at Brady Monday.
After four ties or lead changes, Comfort was up 3-2 through 3 frames but Ingram jumped on top for good with 4 runs in the fourth inning with 5 singles and a hit batter for the 6-3 lead.
The Warriors added single runs in the fifth and sixth frames and pulled ahead at 8-5 going into the bottom of the seventh.
That’s where Comfort started its rally that came up just short. A Judd Lozano double, a hit batter and a walk loaded the bases for the Cats with one out.
An infield ground out scored Lozano from third to make it 8-6 but now there were two outs. Later in the inning, Mason Matter scored on a wild pitch and the Ingram lead was down to a run at 8-7.
Comfort had the tying run at third and the winning run at the plate in Brooks Davis, who came up and hit a sharp liner, but it was stabbed out of the air by Warriors third baseman Myles Jordan to end it.
Comfort outhit the Warriors, 12-11, and were led by Lozano who hit 2 doubles and a single, had 2 RBI and a run scored.
Davis finished with 3 hits and 2 runs scored, Mason Matt hit a double and a single and picked up 2 RBI and Noah Bohnert hit 2 singles and scored a run.
Tucker Rust went 4.2 innings on the hill and yielded 8 hits, 7 runs, 1 walk and struck out 1.
Gunner Carpenter tossed the final 2.1 innings and scattered 3 hits, 1 run, no walks and fanned 4.
