26-5A golf tournament

COMFORT – Boerne Champion competed at the 26-5A girls golf tournament held at the Buckhorn Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.

Only the top two teams and top two individuals not on an advancing team can qualify for regionals and compete for a chance at state.

Champion placed fifth overall in the field of nine teams after the Lady Chargers shot a 672 (343,329) and missed having an individual make it to regionals by a few strokes.

Alamo Heights 1 was first at 601 (294,307), Pieper 1 came in second at 615 (305,310) and Alamo Heights 2 took third 623 (311,312) and will serve as an alternate.

Ellie Harris from Kerrville Tivy made it as an individual qualifier after she shot a 146 (73,73) and Maddie Lawless from Smithson Valley made it as well with a 150 (74,76).

Michelle Lee from Alamo Heights 2 beat both Harris and Lawless with a 141 (71,70) but she’ll play as part of the Alamo Heights 1 team at regionals and by doing so opened up a spot for Lawless.

Champion’s Jilian Langenberg paced the team with a 153 after shooting rounds of 78 and 75 for a 153 and just missed out on advancing.

Also, for the Chargers, Ariana Chavez shot a 164 with rounds 86 and 78, Lily Musch finished at 171 after carding rounds of 87 and 84, Marilyn Curd scored a 184 after consecutive days of shooting 92s and Sophia Mazzu rounded out the team with a 199 with rounds of 101 and 98.
