Lady Chargers pull off sweep of Lady Mules

Champion softball coach Sara Cammer played for Alamo Heights softball coach Jennifer Fox back when they were both at Boerne High.

Now they are head coaches at different schools and apparently the student learned a whole lot from the teacher.

The Lady Chargers defeated Alamo Heights 6-0 on Tuesday and in the process swept the Lady Mules this year.

Champion is 6-8 overall and 4-7 in district. The Chargers hosted Boerne High Friday and is at Pieper Tuesday.

In Tuesday’s contest, Champion broke open a scoreless game with 2 runs in the top of the third. Doubles from Hannah Perez and Lilly Ritchie brought in a couple of runs and the Chargers went up 2-0.

A Torin Tucker double in the third pushed in a run to make it 3-0. Later in the inning, another double, this time from Mylie Parker knocked in 2 more runs and the Chargers had built a 5-0 lead.

In the top of fifth, instead of a double, Champion used a solo home run from Tucker to build a 6-0 advantage.

That’s where it stayed as the Champion defense didn’t allow a run. Parker pitched a great game for the Chargers and only gave up one hit and 2 walks, while striking out 6 on 95 pitches.
