13
batters in five innings of work
Through the first five innings of Monday’s baseball game between Geneva School of Boerne and New Braunfels Christian Academy, the Eagles recorded 15 outs and 13 were strikeouts from pitcher Jake Roberson.
Geneva defeated the Wildcats, 14-3, in a game that went seven innings on Monday. The Eagles are 3-2 and 3-1 in district.
Roberson struck out the side in three innings and in the other two frames he fanned two batters. The only other outs that didn’t come from Roberson strikeouts were two runners getting thrown out on the base paths.
Offensively, Geneva was up 7-0 through four and a half innings, with 3 runs in the first, 2 in the second and 4 more in the fourth.
The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs and added another in the fifth to account for their 3 runs.
Geneva was leading 8-3 at that point and pushed in a run in the sixth for the 9-3 advantage.
In the seventh, the Eagles tacked on 5 more runs and made it 14-3, but the mercy rule didn’t kick in since NBCA was the home team and they still had to bat in the bottom half of the inning.
The Wildcats put on one base runner with a single but that was it after Eagles reliever Bryce Hanover struck out 2 batters, while the batter who singled was thrown out on the base paths.
Geneva finished with 9 hits and was led offensively by Roberson as well after he doubled and singled, took 3 walks, drove in 4 runs and scored 3 times.
Rooster Jons doubled, scored twice and picked up an RBI, Gray Bruner singled, took 2 walks and scored 3 runs, Colton Lutz finished with 2 singles, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, while Bryce Hanover plated 2 runs.
Roberson gave up 3 hits, no earned runs and 4 walks.
Hanover tossed the final two frames and yielded a hit, no runs, 1 walk and fanned 3 as the Eagles pitching staff combined for 16 strikeouts.
