The Geneva School of Boerne’s Geneva Quarterly magazine staff, represented by nine students and advisor Emily Rawls, recently traveled to New York City to attend the Columbia University Scholastic Press Conference.

The team of students attending included seniors Will Crews, Ella Dillinger, Jacob Goodman and Emma Malkowski, junior Abigail Bussey and sophomores Macie Egli, Kadence Hastings, Nathan Player and Sofia Ramirez.

The team spent three full days exploring, learning, bonding and bringing home the prestigious Silver Crown Award earned by the 2023-24 Geneva Quarterly staff for creating another award-winning volume.

The seniors on the magazine staff modeled their volume after The New Yorker, using similar graphics and layout. During their New York City visit, the students visited the New York Public Library, where they discovered that the fifth floor happened to have a featured exhibit on The New Yorker in honor of its 100-year anniversary.

The students were treated to a hallway lined with years of publications displaying the very graphics and layouts they used as their inspiration for this year’s volume of their publication.

“We were so grateful Geneva offered us this incredible opportunity and experience, and we made so many memories we will not soon forget. I am so proud and thankful to be a part of this incredible group of creatives,” Rawls said.
