Comfort’s baseball game with Florence last Friday looked a lot like their Tuesday contest against the Buffaloes.
Tuesday on the road, the Bobcats defeated Florence 11-2, and last Friday in Comfort, the Bobcats beat the Buffs by a similar score, 11-1.
Comfort is 7-7 overall and is 2-0 in district heading into Monday’s contest with Ingram. The Cats are at Ingram on Friday to close out their series.
While Tuesday’s win over the Buffs wasn’t a run rule, that wasn’t the case on Friday after Comfort won it in six innings.
Florence scored their only run of the game in the top of the first, but the lead didn’t hold for long after Comfort answered with 2 in the bottom half of the frame.
Noah Bohnert had the big hit of the inning with a triple to score Tucker Rust, who singled, to make it 2-1.
A walk followed by singles from Mason Matter, Mason Matt, Brooks Davis and Rust allowed the Bobcats to push in 3 more runs in the bottom of the second and take a 5-1 lead.
Florence played good defense over the next two innings to keep it at 5-1, but the Bobcats broke loose for 5 runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Two singles, two hit batters, an error and two fielder’s choice plays allowed Comfort to bump its lead to 10-1.
From there, Comfort closed it out in the sixth with a couple of walks and a double by Owen Schulze to score Rhyder George to end it.
Comfort finished with 12 hits, including 2 base hits from Matt, Davis, Rust, Bohnert and George. Matt and George scored 2 runs each, while Rust picked up 2 RBI and Matt and Evan Valadez took 2 walks apiece.
Zach Jones picked up the win from the mound on 101 pitches. He gave up 5 hits, no earned runs, 4 walks and struck out a batter.
