CELEBRATING THE ARTS

So, you were thinking watercolor a bridge too far? And that possibly once created, it is an unforgiving medium and could not be changed and improved.

You need to register today for this mini workshop, offering a continuing education opportunity in creating and improving your watercolors. Come to this class and learn how to make changes to your watercolor paintings and even turn them into completely different paintings. Bring a painting you are not happy with; we will turn it into a beautiful work.

Come with photos of something you want to paint and something you think you have failed at painting before. We will learn how to transform the “not so great” into “wonderful!”

Back by popular demand, Maren Phillips’ “The Best of Watercolor,” an immersion mini workshop is slated for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 12 in the Classroom at The Agri-Cultural Museum and Art Center, 102 City Park Road, Boerne. Register today at www.hccarts.org. Class size limited, supplies included.

Phillips grew up in Tennessee, spending many hours outside observing nature. Her interest in portraiture and landscape painting evolved from her observations during those early years.

You will find her paintings of animals filled with insight and sensitivity, and her landscape work demonstrating an understanding of sense of place.

Phillips received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Washington University, St. Louis, School of Fine Arts, then moved to Texas. Following years of independent study and pursuit of life, she earned a master’s degree in fine art, focusing on figurative work, from the Academy of Art University.

Phillips travels extensively to display her work, paint en plein air, and visit-commissioned portrait clients. Plein air painting is an abiding passion for her, and portrait work remains a primary focus.

Phillips shares her passion for painting with others, teaching in local venues both privately and through arts organizations. The Hill Country Council for The Arts is proud to say that she is among our original resident artists.
