The Boerne High softball team has thrown together some crazy late-inning rallies this year and some have resulted in victories and others haven’t, but regardless of the outcome, it shows the Lady Greyhounds will fight to the end.
BHS had one of those rallies on Tuesday against Kerrville Tivy and this one came up short against the Lady Antlers.
Tivy won the contest, 9-7, but Boerne scored all 7 of its runs in the bottom of the seventh - and all with two outs.
BHS did something similar in the first round against the Lady Antlers after they scored 10 runs in its last two at bats but lost, 15-13.
The Lady Greyhounds drop to 4-6 in district and 8-6 overall. They were scheduled to be at Veterans Memorial Friday and host Smithson Valley Tuesday.
In Tuesday’s contest, Tivy scored a run in the second and 4 in the third for the 5-0 lead. They added 2 in the sixth and 2 more in the seventh and pulled ahead, 9-0.
BHS came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh and its first batter flew out to right field for the first out. Breanna Krause doubled but the next batter grounded out to the pitcher, and it was two down with Krause moving to third on the play.
That’s when the fun started. A Maddie Vasquez single scored Krause and then an error put two runners on. Ava Renteria doubled to bring in Vasquez and it was 9-2.
Another Tivy error, followed by three straight singles from Brooklynn Thomason, Lizzy Thornton and Riley Partin pushed in five more runs and the lead was sliced to two at 9-7.
But that’s where the rally ended. A full-count line drive was caught by the Tivy second baseman to seal the victory for the Antlers.
Jesseanna Aguirre went all seven innings for the Greyhounds and scattered 11 hits, gave up 8 earned runs, 2 walks and struck out 1.
