Bobcats stuff Buffs, 11-2

Comfort had a solid start to its district baseball season after the Bobcats beat Florence Monday night on the road.

The Cats took Monday’s district opener 11-2 and start league play at 1-0 (6-7 overall). They were at Florence Friday to close out their series with the Buffs and host Ingram on Monday.

It was close early in Monday’s contest and the Bobcats were only leading 3-2 after two innings.

Comfort plated 2 runs in the first and added another in the second, while Florence pushed in single runs in the first two frames.

However, the Buffs didn’t score after the second inning, while Comfort was just getting going. The Bobcats pulled ahead of Florence at 6-2 with 3 runs in the top of the fourth.

Comfort closed it out with two strong innings in its last two at bats. The Cats pushed in 3 runs in the sixth and capped it with 2 more runs in the seventh.

Tucker Rust went the distance on the hill and gave up 4 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and struck out 9.

The Cats banged out 11 hits, including 4 that went for extra bases. Noah Bohnert tripled and scored 2 runs, Mason Matt hit 2 doubles and a single, took a walk, picked up 2 RBI and scored 4 runs, Brooks Davis doubled and hit 3 singles, collected 2 RBI and scored twice.

Gunner Carpenter singled and pushed in 2 runs, Rust helped his cause and added a single, Evan Valadez walked and scored, while Mason Matters singled, picked up an
