\Comfort picked up its first district win in softball after the Deer defeated Brady last Friday, 15-6. Deer pitcher Ella Thiele led the way and fanned 13 batters.
Comfort is 4-14 overall and 1-2 in district. They play two with Florence this week and were on the road Monday and host the Lady Buffs on Friday.
Because of a conflict with an FCCLA meeting in April, Comfort and Brady moved their April 11 game to last Friday. Originally, the Deer were scheduled to play Harper in a non-district contest last Friday but made it a district game instead.
It turned into a good move for the Deer as they picked up their first district win behind 16 hits.
Comfort scored 2 runs in the first and 2 more in the second for the 4-0 lead. It stayed there until the fourth when the Bulldogs scored a run and it was 4-1, but the Deer answered with 4 in the bottom of the fourth to opened up an 8-1 advantage.
Brady made it interesting with a 5-run fifth and the Comfort lead was down to 8-6, but the Deer responded with 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning for some breathing room at 10-6.
In the sixth, the Deer busted it open with 5 runs for the comfortable lead at 15-6. Since it was only a 9-run advantage, the Lady Bulldogs batted in the seventh but came up empty.
Jordan Judkins had a great game at the plate and hit 3 singles, picked up 5 RBI and scored 2 runs. Ella Thiele helped her cause with 3 singles, an RBI and 4 runs scored, while Kaydence Stehling knocked out 2 doubles and a single, collected an RBI and scored once.
Kippy Sterling finished with 2 singles, 2 RBI and a run scored, Hope Van Geffen drove in 2 runs, Bella Hernandez legged out a triple to go with 2 singles, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.
Taygan Rust hit 2 singles and scored a run and McKenzie Pankratz walked and scored twice.
