Some uncharacteristic errors cost the Boerne High baseball team during last Friday’s game with Smithson Valley.

Boerne High committed 6 errors and gave up 5 unearned runs as the Rangers took advantage of the miscues and went on to defeat the Greyhounds, 9-7.

BHS is 13-3 overall and 5-2 in district. They’ll have two games with cross-town rival Boerne Champion this week. The Greyhounds hosted Tuesday’s contest and Friday’s game will take place at Charger Field.

Smithson Valley scored single runs in the first and second innings and added 2 more in the third with only one of those being earned for the 4-0 advantage.

The Greyhounds answered and took the lead in the fourth with a 5-run inning, but Smithson Valley turned in a 5-run frame of their own in the sixth and jumped back on top, 9-5.

BHS tried to rally and did score 2 in the bottom of the sixth to make it 9-7 but that’s where it stayed.

Boerne hit the ball well and finished with 6 hits, including a triple from Dylan Perez, while Brooks Perez recorded 2 doubles, Hudson McNew also laced a double and Jackson Grimes singled.

Brooks Perez added a single to his 2 doubles and also drove in 2 runs, while Grimes drove in 2 runs and McNew picked up an RBI.

Grimes went 5.1 innings on the bump and gave up 3 hits, 4 earned runs, 3 walks and fanned 5.

Braden Ramirez and McNew both tossed in the game as well and gave up 1 hit each. McNew struck out a batter.
