The Bobcat baseball team visited Canyon Lake last Wednesday for its only game of the week and closed out the non-district portion of its schedule.
Canyon Lake played well and defeated Comfort in six innings, 10-0.
Comfort opened district play this week with a pair of games against Florence. The Bobcats traveled to Florence Monday and host the Buffaloes Friday.
The Hawks scored in five of the six innings last Wednesday, but the Bobcats kept it close for a while.
Canyon Lake scored 2 in the first and added another run in the second for the 3-0 that held until they added 4 more runs in the fourth frame.
A triple by the Hawks helped to bring in 2 runs for the 5-0 lead. Canyon Lake pushed in 2 more runs and went up 7-0.
A 2-run homer in the fifth made it 9-0 and then the Hawks were able to tally one more run in the bottom of the sixth to kick in the mercy rule.
Comfort didn’t score but finished with 5 hits in the game, all singles. Mason Matt had 2 base knocks, while Gunner Carpenter, Evan Valadez and Travis Gwaltney also came up with base hits.
Tucker Rust started on the hill and went 3 innings. He scattered 4 hits, gave up 3 runs, 4 walks and struck out 3.
Owen Schulze tossed an inning and yielded 2 hits, 2 earned runs, walked a batter and fanned 1.
Mason Matter went the final 1.2 innings and gave up 2 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks and sat down 2.
