Charger bats held in check by Lady Patriots

The second round of district softball began last Friday for Boerne Champion with a visit to Veterans Memorial.

The Lady Patriots pulled off the sweep of the Lady Chargers after they won Friday’s contest, 9-1. Veterans Memorial also took their first 26-5A game on Feb. 13.

Champion is 3-6 in district and 5-7 overall. They played Smithson Valley Tuesday and are off Friday.

The Chargers only had 3 hits in last Friday’s contest, two of them from Torin Tucker, who recorded an RBI double and a single, while Lily Ritchie added the team’s other hit.

Champion scored its only run of the contest in the third when Reese Rogers reached after being hit by a pitch. She moved to second on a Breah Lazarro sacrifice and scored when Tucker doubled to make it 2-1.

Veterans Memorial plated 2 in the first and then closed it out with 4 runs in the fifth and 3 more in the sixth.

Champion’s Mylie Parker threw 6 innings and yielded 8 hits, 4 earned runs and 4 walks to go with 4 strikeouts.
