Lady Chargers take down Tivy in extra innings

Boerne Champion saved its best for last in Tuesday’s district softball game at Kerrville Tivy.

With the contest tied at 3-3 at the end of seven innings, the Chargers plated 4 runs in the top of the eighth and went on to defeat the Lady Antlers, 7-3.

Champion’s win closes out the first round of district and leaves them at 3-5 in 26-5A. They are 5-6 overall and began the second round Friday at Veterans Memorial and tangle with Smithson Valley Tuesday.

The Chargers never trailed in Tuesday’s game and jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Hannah Perez double that drove in 2 runs.

Tivy cut into the lead in the second with a single run, but the Chargers answered in the top of the third with a run of their own to make it 3-1.

It stayed there until the Lady Antlers tied it in the bottom of the fifth. A single, a triple and a sac fly knotted it up at 3-3 and neither team scored in the sixth and seventh innings.

In the eighth frame, Mylie Parker blasted a solo home run to put the Chargers on top at 4-3. A hit batter and two singles loaded the bases.

Lilly Ritchie came up and singled to bring in 2 runs and bump the lead to 6-3. A bases-loaded walk pushed in another run and Champion took a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the eighth.

Tivy had a promising start to the eighth and put its first two batters on with an error and a single, but the Chargers buckled down.

Parker struck out the next two batters and then fielded a grounder to end it after the throw to first base.

Parker had a great game and hit a home run and a double and scored twice and was also the winning pitcher. She fanned 7, gave up 4 hits, 2 earned runs and walked 4.

Perez doubled, scored a run and picked up 2 RBI, Torin Tucker hit 2 singles and scored once, Anna Hurst singled and drove in a run, Abby Brehmer walked, scored and picked up an RBI, Aidan Kavanah singled, Reese Rogers singled and scored, Ritchie had the 2 RBI single and McKenzie Wilson plated a run.
