Charger soccer squads close out 2025 seasons in style

Both Boerne Champion soccer teams closed out 2025 on a high note after they swept Kerrville Tivy in their 2025 regular-season finales.

The Lady Chargers were at home Thursday and invoked the mercy rule against the Lady Antlers, while the Champion boys were on the road and also defeated the Antlers.

Varsity Girls

Champion defeated the Lady Antlers 8-0 and kicked in the mercy rule with about 30 seconds left in the match on a Jayme Harrell flick off a corner kick.

The Lady Chargers finished the year at 8-6-2 in district and went 9-9-2 overall. They closed out the week with a pair of 8-0 wins after they also defeated Wagner a few days before playing Kerrville Tivy. Smithson Valley (130- 3), Pieper ( 13- 2- 1), New Braunfels (9-5-2) and Boerne High (9-6-1) will represent 26-5A in the playoffs that start this week.

Based on the formula that a win is worth 3 points and a tie is worth 1 point, Champion finished with 26 points, while BHS, the fourthplace team in the district, had 28 points, so one more win for the Chargers in district may have gotten them in.

Lily Alejo led Champion and finished with a hat trick after she scored 3 goals vs. Tivy, while Sarah Blakeney added 2 goals and Meredith Plank, Maggie Hall and Jayme Harrell all netted 1 goal each.

Carsyn Bradley, Plank, Alejo, Blakeney, Campbell Arendall and Brinley Collins all recorded 1 assist apiece.

Seniors this year are Carsyn Bradley, Hilary Delaloye, Brinley Collins, Kenzie Fuller and Lola Vaughan.

Varsity Boys

The Champion boys went on the road and ended their 2025 season with a 4-3 victory over the Antlers.

It was a good week for the Chargers after they won both of their matches last week by a combined score of 11-4. Champion also beat Wagner on Tuesday, 7-1.

Alister Clyne scored a goal on the Thomas David assist, Thomas David had a goal on the assist from Julian Pinedo, Kevin Grover added a goal on the Clyne assist, while Noah Umbreit recorded the unassisted goal.
