Greyhounds open soccer playoffs this week

Boerne ISD will be represented by two teams in the 5A soccer playoffs, and they are both from Boerne High after the Greyhounds made it on the girls and boys side.

BHS boys

The Boerne boys face Liberty Hill in the opening round and they play Thursday at Hays, 8 p.m.

Boerne was second in its district and finished league play at 12-3-1, while Liberty Hill was third at 10-3-1.

In 25-5A, Cedar Park won the district (13-0-1), Rouse took second (12-2), Liberty Hill came in third (10-3-1) and Hays finished fourth (5-7-2).

District 25-5A only has eight teams compared to 26-5A, which has nine teams, so the teams in 25 only have 14 district games compared to the squads in 26, which have 16.

In 26-5A, Pieper won the league title at 16-0, followed by Boerne at 12-3-1. Smithson Valley was third at 8-5-3 and Alamo Heights came in fourth at 8-6-2.

BHS and Alamo Heights will go to the small school or the 5A-DII bracket, while Pieper and Smithson Valley will go to the big school or 5A-DI bracket.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Greyhounds get a tough one out of the gate and face Cedar Park Friday at Dripping Springs, 6 p.m.

Cedar Park won District 25-5A at 13-0-1, Rouse came in second at 12-2, followed by Liberty Hill at 10-3-1 for third and Hays at 5-7-2 for fourth.

In 26-5A, Smithson Valley was first at 13-0-3 and Pieper came in second at 13-2-1, New Braunfels took third at 9-5-2 with Friday’s win over Boerne, while the Lady Hounds are fourth at 9-6-1.

Boerne and Pieper will go small school or to the 5A-DII playoffs, while New Braunfels and Smithson Valley will go to the big school or the 5A-DI playoffs.
