Chargers whip Wagner in four innings, 16-1

The Boerne Champion softball squad smacked the ball around pretty good during last Thursday’s 26-5A contest with Wagner.

Champion used 15 hits – 3 home runs, 2 triples, 3 doubles and 7 singles – and went on to ground the Thunderbirds, 16-1, in four innings.

The Chargers are 4-6 overall and 2-5 in district. They closed out the first round Tuesday at Kerrville and then kick off the second round Friday against Veterans Memorial.

Mylie Parker homered in the first to help the Chargers jump out to a 3-0 lead, Hannah Perez hit her home run in the second to help the Chargers take a 6-0 advantage and Reese Rogers knocked it out of the park in the third and Champion was up 7-0.

The Chargers ended the third frame with an 8-0 lead and then the Thunderbirds finally got on the board in the fourth inning with a single run and it was 8-1.

Champion came up to bat in the bottom of the fourth and pushed in 8 runs to kick in the mercy rule. The Chargers batted 11 in the inning and scored the game-ending run with two outs on a single from Perez, who drove in Parker to finish it.

Hannah Perez homered and hit 2 singles, picked up 2 RBI and scored 2 runs, Mylie Parker homered, hit 2 doubles and a single, scored 4 runs and collected 5 RBI, while Reese Rogers homered and doubled, scored twice and pushed in 2 runs.

Torin Tucker also had a great day at the plate and smacked 2 triples, drove in 2 runs and scored twice, Anna Hurst singled and scored, Abby Brehmer hit 2 singles, picked up an RBI and scored 3 runs, Aidan Kavanagh singled, Tatum Cruz scored once, and McKenzie Wilson picked up an RBI and scored a run.

Parker also picked up the win from the circle and yielded one hit, no earned runs, 2 walks and struck out 9 batters.
