The Boerne Champion softball team turned in two solid performances this week and split their two spring break games to go 1-1.

Champion is 4-6 overall and is 2-5 in district. They close out the first round of 26-5A action Tuesday at Kerrville and begin the second round of district Friday at Veterans Memorial.

Even though the Chargers lost to New Braunfels on Tuesday, 10-7, Champion outhit the Unicorns, 12-10, and put together a late rally that almost helped them catch New Braunfels.

On Thursday, the Chargers hosted Wagner and put on a hitting clinic with 3 home runs, 2 triples and 3 doubles on their way to a 16-1 runrule victory.

Vs. Wagner

The Chargers used 15 hits to score its 16 runs Thursday at home against the Thunderbirds.

Hannah Perez, Reese Rogers and Mylie Parker all hammered out home runs, while Torin Tucker legged out two triples.

Parker added 2 doubles and Rogers slapped out a double as 8 of those 15 hits went for extra bases.

Vs. New Braunfels

After a scoreless first inning, New Braunfels plated 2 runs in the bottom of the second for the 2-0 advantage.

Three straight singles by the Chargers in the top of the third allowed McKenzie Wilson to score on the hit from Anna Hurst and the NB lead was cut in half.

In the top of the third, a solo homer, a triple, a single, a couple of walks and an error helped the Unicorns open up a 6-1 advantage, but the Chargers battled to the end.

Hanner Perez blasted a 2-run shot out of the park to cut the lead in half at 6-3, but New Braunfels answered with a single run in the bottom of the fourth and pushed in 2 more runs in the fifth to make it 9-3. Both teams tallied single runs in the sixth frame and the score was 10-4 going into the last inning where the Chargers made one final push that came up just short and they did it with two outs.

Torin Tucker ripped a triple and Anna Hurst singled and it was 10-5. A walk and a single loaded the bases and then Hannah Perez knocked in 2 runs and the lead was 10-7 but that’s as close as they came after the game ended with a runner getting thrown out on the base paths.

Perez homered and singled, drove in 4 runs, Tucker hit a triple, a double and a single and scored once, Hurst hit 3 singles, pushed in 2 runs and scored a run, Abby Brehmer singled and scored, Mylie Parker finished with 2 singles and 2 runs scored, while Wilson singled and scored.
