Geneva finally begins baseball season

After a long wait, the Geneva School of Boerne baseball team was finally able to have enough players to field a team.

The Eagles opened the season last week against Ingram and fell to the Warriors, 11-8. Geneva starts the year at 0-1 and won’t play again until March 18, after spring break, when they visit Schertz John Paul II.

With the Geneva boys basketball and soccer teams going deep into the playoffs, there weren’t enough baseball players on the Eagles roster when the season started and they had to miss a few early games, including a tournament.

Geneva was expected to pick up about five players from basketball and soccer combined and are ready to go now.

The Eagles had a good start in their game against Ingram and scored 5 runs in the bottom of the first, but only tallied 3 runs over the next final six innings.

Ingram responded with 4 runs in both the second and third frames and added another 2 in the fourth for the 10-7 lead before the Eagles plated their last run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 10-8.

Ingram added one more run in the top of the seventh for the final of 11-8.

Chase Doran doubled and scored twice for Geneva, Colton Lutz doubled and singled, picked up 3 RBI and scored a run.

Brady Chandler singled and scored, Gray Bruner walked twice and scored 3 runs, Rooster Jons picked up an RBI, TJ Cross singled and scored and Bryce Hanover singled and picked up 2 RBI.

Bruner went 2.2 innings on the hill and fanned 1, Doran tossed 2.1 frames and struck out 2, while Jake Roberson threw 2 innings and sat down 4.
