While the Boerne High soccer teams were off last Friday, the Boerne Champion soccer teams took on New Braunfels as the high school season starts to wind down.
The Champion boys were on the road to play the Unicorns and the Lady Chargers were at home and it was mixed results as the Champion girls team won and the boys lost.
Wagner was up next for the Chargers on Tuesday. The boys were at home for their 2025 home finale, while the girls were on the road to play the Thunderbirds.
BHS tangles with Pieper this week. The BHS boys are at home and the girls are at Pieper.
Final playoff spots are up for grabs and will be settled this week.
Varsity Girls
The Champion girls defeated the Unicorns at home Friday, 2-0, and remained mathematically alive for a playoff spot heading into Tuesday.
One thing Champion’s win over New Braunfels did was to help Boerne High in the standings.
Smithson Valley is first (11-0-3), Pieper is second (12-2-1), Boerne is in third (9-4-1), Alamo Heights is fourth (8-6), followed by New Braunfels (7-5-2) and Champion (6-6-2).
The Chargers need to win their last two and then get a little help from a few others to make it.
Maggie Hall scored Champion’s first goal on a header on a throw-in from Sarah Blakeney for the 1-0 lead late in the match.
Macy O’Dell added an insurance goal later in the match on the Carsyn Bradley assist.
Varsity Boys
New Braunfels stayed in third place in 26-5A with last Friday’s 4-1 win over the Chargers.
Pieper is 15-0, followed by Boerne High in second at 11-2-1. New Braunfels improved to 8-4-2 with last Friday’s win and Smithson Valley is in fourth at 7-4-3, just ahead of Alamo Heights (6-6-2) and Kerrville Tivy (6-6-2).
The top two teams are locked in, while the final two postseason spots are in play heading into this week.
In Friday’s match, Champion’s goal was scored by Bentley McCool.
The Chargers are 2-8-4 in district and 2-12-5 overall.
