Comfort held the lead twice in Friday’s baseball game at St. Mary’s Hall but the Barons scored 6 runs in the fifth frame to swing the momentum their way for good.
The Bobcats were up 1-0 and 3-2, but a 6-run fifth helped the Barons win the game, 8-3.
Comfort is 5-4 overall and hosted Bandera Tuesday and then play San Antonio Wolverines Wednesday.
In the first frame, Brooks Davis walked, made his way around the bases and scored on a steal of home for the quick 1-0 advantage.
St. Mary’s Hall answered with a single run in the bottom of the inning and it was tied at 1-1. The Barons tacked on another run in the third and pulled ahead 2-1.
It stayed there until the top of the fifth when Comfort retook the lead. The Bobcats used a couple of walks and a Davis single to bring in 2 runs for the 3-2 edge, but the lead didn’t hold for long.
St. Mary’s Hall answered in the bottom of the fifth frame with its 6 runs. The Barons used 3 walks, 2 doubles, 2 singles and an error to push in its 6 runs and make it 8-3.
Comfort still had two more at bats but went down in order in the sixth and had two runners on in the seventh with one out via a couple of walks, but a fly out and a ground out ended the threat and ended the game.
Mason Matt, Davis, Gunner Carpenter and Judd Lozano all singled, while Matt, Davis and Lozano all scored single runs and Davis picked up 2 RBI.
Zach Jones went 4.1 innings on the hill, Lozano tossed part of an inning and Mason Matter went one frame on the bump. Jones fanned 5 and Lozano struck out 1.
