The Geneva School of Boerne softball team opened its season Monday and picked up a 9-7 win over Shiner Catholic School despite getting outhit, 9-7.
Geneva starts the season at 1-0 and had a good fifth inning against Shiner. The Eagles were trailing 3-0 when they came up to bat in the fourth frame and scored 2 to make it 3-2 on a Dominique Gonzalez- Leano 2-RBI pinch hit single.
Geneva took control in the fifth frame and plated 6 runs to hold its first lead of the game at 8-3. Reese Smith knocked out a 2-RBI single in the frame.
Shiner tried to rally and scored 2 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to get to 7 runs, but Geneva added another run in the sixth for a little breathing room before recording the 2-run win.
Geneva finished with 7 hits in the game and were led by Sidney Schaefer who went 3 for 4 with an RBI.
Fresh from basketball, Madeline Egbert was the starting pitcher and struck out 7 batters to earn the win from the circle.
